Rui Reininho, MAO-MAO, Nómada Urbe and A Flor do Lácio are the artists and projects that are part of the line-up for the evening of “Spoken Word”, the first one included in the “Warm Up”, programming cycle that precedes another edition of the Book Fair.

An evening of spoken words, words in Portuguese, music and manifestos. From 16 to 18 July, the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal host a “Spoken Word” programming, in the first session of the “Warm up” cycle, a series of six weekends with different cultural events that mark the countdown to another edition of Porto Book Fair.

Thus, the programming begins on July 16th, from 7 pm, at Jardim dos Cavalinhos, with the presentation of the MAO-MAO project and the performance “aquilo que nos esmaga é também o que nos liberta”. This is a musical project conceived by writer Valério Romão, and poet / musician José Anjos, based on ancient and contemporary Chinese poems written by factory workers. This work aims to create a new perspective on Chinese poetry, especially contemporary poetry written by factory workers and compiled in the anthology “Iron Moon: An Anthology of Chinese Worker Poetry”, translated by Eleanor Goodman.

On Saturday, June 17th, Concha Acústica will host the Nómada Urbe project, which proposes “A dizer outra vez”. Starting at 5 pm, this will be a performance that will revisit the places that make up the human condition, with texts derived from authors such as Erasmo, Fernando Pessoa and Samuel Beckett, among others.

Soon after, from 7 pm, A Flor de Lácio presents “a poesia da língua portuguesa em concerto”. This is a project that pays tribute and celebrates the Portuguese language in full, in a special dialogue between Portugal and Brazil. Well-known songs by the audiences coexist with texts and poems that inspired them, and some poems, perhaps lesser known, have inspired new songs.

Rui Reininho closes the weekend

Closing the first weekend of Warm Up, a household name in the local and national music scene: Rui Reininho. GNR’s vocalist presents, in Jardins do Roseiral, latest work, “20.000 Éguas Submarinas”, a more experimental album, with electronic music, spoken word, Tibetan gongs, but always with the puns that made the musician one of the renowned figures in the national music. Three musicians will be on stage: Rui Reininho (vocals, percussion, gongs), Paulo Borges (keyboards, electronic music, guitars), who also co-produced the album, and Alexandre Soares (electric guitar, set list).

Entry to the Warm Up is free, subject to the space’s capacity. Tickets will be available on the day the events are held, with mandatory pick-up of a maximum of one ticket per person.

The Warm Up cycle will continue on the following weekend, from 23 to 25 July, with the Festival Porta-Jazz.
