Romanian low-cost airline Blue Air, that has started its operation in Portugal in 2008, opens two new routes in the country, starting this Saturday: to Porto and Madeira.

To Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, the arrival of Romanian airline represents, simultaneously, a new airline and a new destination/country. Blue Air will start operating on a weekly basis, but as of 21 June, it will have two flights per week, in a Boeing B737-800 aircraft or B737-8 MAX aircraft.

According to a statement from ANA, which manages the Portuguese airports, since 2010 traffic between Porto and Romania has grown by around 10 percent per year "and the demand for the first flights indicates a growing demand," which the Portuguese company itself hopes will be "a great success."

To ANA, these connections “are important to tourism, with Portugal asserting itself as a quality tourist destination and Bucharest as a European capital gaining visibility”, as well as for the segment of family and friends travel, and may also "make up new business opportunities, especially in the north of Portugal".
