Monthly Highlights
Based on Portuguese concrete and experimental poetry from the 1960s and 1970s, the work focuses on the composition of choreographic scores, which unfold the visuality of the relationships between the gestural and vocal dimensions of the poetics produced by the performers. The dance becomes an opening between the nonsensical and the concrete, constituting dynamic figures that spatialize the meanings generated by the folds of gestures and the curves of words. Choreographer: Jorge Gonçalves Performers: 2nd year dance students from Balleteatro.
Ornatos Violeta, Foge Foge Bandido, Pluto and Supernada are all projects that have marked the last few decades of Portuguese music and which share the Midas touch of Manel Cruz. This year, after a creative hiatus, the musician is returning to the stage to present new songs and revisit themes from his discography, now revisited solo and in an intimate format.
In its 44th edition, Fantasporto returns to Batalha with another outstanding programme. This year's highlights include the multi-award-winning Hungarian cinema of Márta Mészáros, István Szabó and Miklós Jancso. We'll also discover the work of Karim Ouelhaj, the award-winning director of "Megalomaniac", the manga of "Baian the Assassin" and "Tokyo Revengers" transposed into real images and the best of recent cinema in the festival's five official sections. A Fantasporto that won't forget the film talks, masterclasses, Portuguese-language cinema and much more.
Porto in bloom, even before spring. The 28th Camellia Exhibition is coming to Parque de São Roque on the first weekend of March, bringing together growers and lovers from all over the world. During the days of the exhibition, Parque de São Roque will also host several concerts. On 2 March, the Amara Quartet will play, followed by singer Charlotte Akenhead, saxophonists Rodrigo Amado and Ricardo Toscano, and violinists Blue & White. The following day there is a piano recital by Carlos Bianchini, a concert by Pedro Lima and João Miguel Braga Soares and, at the end of the day, a show by harpist Ana Aroso, saxophonist Isabel Anjo and soprano Marina Pacheco. Music is not, however, the only artistic expression on the programme. On Saturday, visitors can take part in the travelling animation of the Persil Noir project and the didactic performance The Fabulous Time Stopping Machine. On Sunday, there are circus moments with Piano Clown and the Carmim show, as well as the Florentine Explorer's workshop-tour, which will lead visitors to discover the secrets of São Roque Park. The activities on 3 March also include free origami camellia workshops, eco-creative jewellery making, tea tasting, mask decorating, camellia making using cardboard and various threads, and a wine tasting.
