Among 53 destinations, Porto occupies the 18th position. Among the strong points of the city, the gastronomy stands out.

Which is the best city in the world? It's not an easy question to answer – after all, cities are full of people and people are full of contradictions. But that's okay, we've found a way to find out what makes a place perfect (or nearly perfect) and which cities are leading the way, even with tough years in between. With the help of 20,000 people, who answered to yet another Time Out City Index, we've come up with the definitive ranking of the 53 best cities in the world in 2022. Edinburgh, in Scotland, is the big winner. Porto is also on the list.

Edinburgh has long been known for its stunning medieval setting, which makes it perfect for long walks. But it is also progressive, modern, creative and festival-oriented – the famous Edinburgh Fringe, one of the world's biggest cultural events, has been held for three weeks since 1947 and, after a two-year break, is finally back. But there are more cities in the world worth visiting.

In the top 5, we find Chicago (2nd place), in the USA; Medellín (3rd place), in Colombia; Glasgow (4th place), Scotland; and Amsterdam (5th place), in the Netherlands. In Portugal, Porto is in 18th place and Lisbon in 28th place. In both cities, the gastronomic scene stands out, which, despite Covid-19, continues to thrive with the opening of new restaurants.
