Porto hosted the interim meeting of the international Great Wine Capitals Network in which the winners of the wine tourism awards were announced and was discussed the organisation's strategic plan for the next 10 years.

It had the representatives of the various member cities of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network and representatives of various institutions of the wine and tourism sector, the meeting took place in the last days and was divided between the facilities of Porto Innovation Hub and Monverde Wine Experience Hotel, and the Best of Wine Tourism 2020 awards are announced and awarded in the following categories:

These wine tourism projects were awarded, in each of the categories, based on criteria such as quality of services and facilities or innovation and originality of the offer, as well as the impact they have on the development of wine tourism and the region.

The Municipality of Porto, represented by the councillor for Economy, Tourism and Trade, Ricardo Valente, accompanied by the official delegates of the network’s member cities, organised the awards ceremony.

A second phase of this competition will take place at the beginning of November during the Annual General Meeting of the network to be held in Bordeaux, France. The international jury, composed of representatives of all Great Wine Capitals members, will select the best wine tourism project from among the winners of these categories, which will be awarded as Global Winner.

Porto is a founding member and represents in the Network the wine growing regions of Douro and Vinhos Verdes, with the Municipality of Porto being officially representing Porto and its regions within this context, with Associação de Turismo do Porto having the task of holding all the events related to the project.
